The Difference Between Stainless Steel 316 And 304
316 and 304 stainless steel are austenitic stainless steel, both have good rust resistance, corrosion resistance, surface treated 316 and 304 stainless steel, generally suitable for food grade equipment, machinery, appliances, such as: food and drug processing equipment, medical equipment, insulation cup, children's tableware and so on. However ,316 and 304 stainless steel have differences in high temperature mechanical properties, corrosion properties of special media, and 304 stainless steel should not be replaced when 316 stainless steel is required in the technical documents.
304 is a universal stainless steel, with corrosion resistance, easy processing, toughness and other characteristics, used in industrial manufacturing, architectural decoration, food and medical industries. It is widely used to make equipment and parts that require good comprehensive performance (corrosion resistance and molding).
316 It is widely used in food industry, pharmaceutical industry and surgical equipment, adding molybdenum element to obtain a special structure of corrosion resistance. Compared with 304,316 stainless steel greatly improves the resistance to chemical corrosion, and has better resistance to high temperature creep, stress fracture and tensile strength.
The corrosion resistance of 316 stainless steel is better than that of 304 stainless steel. And 316 stainless steel is also resistant to ocean and erosive industrial atmosphere erosion.
Heat resistance :316 stainless steel has good oxidation resistance in intermittent use below 1600 degrees and continuous use below 1700 degrees. In the range of 800-175 degrees, it is best not to act continuously 316 stainless steel, but when 316 stainless steel is used continuously outside this temperature range, the stainless steel has good heat resistance.
Welding :316 stainless steel has good welding performance. All standard welding methods can be used for welding.
